Throne of Glass Optioned for Television

I guess Throne of Glass won't become a movie after all.

No, much better, it'll become a TV series! Well, it's been optioned for television by the Mark Gordon Company (the same company behind Grey's Anatomy!!!!), which means it's still in the early stages and hasn't been signed as a TV series yet. So keep your fingers crossed and hope they sign off on the deal (and get some casting news too)!

Sarah tweeted the news hours ago saying:

ToG Fans have been positive thus far on Twitter. Showing their support for the news in true fan-fashion:

Others are even getting straight into the casting business, airing both concerns and predictions:

You can read the original article here.

What do you think? Would it have been better as a movie? Do y'all have any casting suggestions? Sound off in the comments!

Which To Read First: Assassin's Blade or Throne of Glass

The ever prominent question of which to read first has invaded forums all over the interwebs, leaving readers either satisfied or more confused than ever. Today, we hope to answer that question - adequately - so that you can finally get on with reading the series.

What is Assassin's Blade? Is it the first book?

Assassin's Blade is a book of five novellas that transpired before Throne of Glass.
It is NOT the first book, but it did happen before the first book.

Should I even read Assassin's Blade? Can I ditch it altogether?

Reading or not reading Assassin's Blade will not hinder you from understanding the series.

But my recommendation, for whatever it's worth, is that you should read it. I personally enjoyed Assassin's Blade tremendously more than Throne of Glass. It'll also help you get an in-depth view of what Celaena went through and who she was before her time in Endovier.

Besides, you'll get to know SAM sexy fcuking ass CORTLAND.

So Throne of Glass is the first book? Not Assassin's Blade?

Yes.

But if I were to list the books chronologically, it would go like this.
  • Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass #0.5)
  • Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1)
  • Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)
  • Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3)
  • Throne of Glass #4
  • Throne of Glass #5
  • Throne of Glass #6
So should I read Throne of Glass first?

Now this is where it gets tricky. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like spoilers, at all, then I'd recommend you read Assassin's Blade first. If you don't mind them that much then go on ahead and read Throne of Glass. But see, Assassin's Blade isn't all that exciting, around three-fourths of the book is about Celaena gallivanting around the desert and the best parts come around the last leg of the book (cough Sam Cortland cough). So if you're the kind of person who risks ditching a book in the middle of it then I'd highly recommend you read Throne of Glass BEFORE Assassin's Blade.

Bottom line

It doesn't matter which way you read it, as long as you read both.

But be warned that Throne of Glass hints a few spoilers about Assassin's Blade. Also be warned that Assassin's Blade can be very, very, very painful. Here's a survival guide.

Star in your own Throne of Glass Story

For the release of Crown of Midnight last 2013, the Bloomsbury team created a Throne of Glass story generator where YOU can star in your own ToG story. It's been tested (by me) and proven (also by me) that this generator-thing is absolute, absolute fun!!

There are four categories (or scenes) to choose from, all in all.

And in each category, you will be asked to fill in some information for your story, then the site will generate your story and by the wyrd, it's hilarious! On my first try, I filled it up with absolute random things like Bananas and tooth brushes and it came out comical!

Try it out now, simply click the button below!

Show Some Fan Pride With These Cool ToG Shirts

What better way to show Throne of Glass pride than wearing ToG-themed shirts?!

Spreadshirt and Redbubble both having eye-catching, drool-worthy designs that would urge you to start saving money or to run to those websites ASAP and buy as much as you can! (I already ordered like around three, would've gotten four but I ran out of money).

Here are some of the designs:

If you're not really a shirt person, never fear!

THEY DON'T ONLY SELL SHIRTS BUT ALSO HOODIES! (All the designs from Redbubble have an option of being turned into a hoodie, tank top or shirt)

TANK TOPS, MUGS AND TOTE BAGS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE (from spreadshirt, just scroll down or check the next pages to find them)!

They've got a wider array of designs to choose from on their sites. If you do decide to buy, make sure to email us a picture or to tag (@throneglass) us so we can show them on the site!

History of the map in Throne of Glass

Have you ever wondered how the map in Throne of Glass came to be? Yeah, no? Well I haven't. When I saw Erilea's map in the book, I waved it off as one of those extras that authors or publishers deem necessary to add in a book.

But no! It actually has a story, and an interesting one at that.

How the Erilea Map came to be (from Sarah's livejournal):
Stick-figure sketches from me. yay!

"So, several years ago (god, I don’t even know how many, but it feels like ages ago, perhaps before I was even published), I was approached by a long-time fan about making a map for THRONE OF GLASS.

Her name was Kelly, and she lived in Israel (HOW COOL, RIGHT?!), she’d read the first three TOG books on FictionPress, and also had a penchant for making epic fantasy/Tolkien-esque maps. …And then she offered to make a map for me. For free. For fun.

Obviously, I FREAKED, and sent her the horrible, embarrassing, totally unrealistic map I’d drawn of Erilea (the world of THRONE OF GLASS). A few weeks later, she sent me back a map that BLEW MY MIND. It was elegant and beautiful and made my world look cool and epic and—basically, it was everything I’d dreamed it’d be.

Flash forward a few years—to this past winter/spring, actually. I got an email from Bloomsbury, asking if I had a map (however vague/awful it might be) of the world of THRONE OF GLASS that they could send to a map designer/artist (they were in the process of looking for one).

My response? “OH HELL YES I HAVE A MAP THAT YOU COULD SHOW A DESIGNER.” (Obviously, I answered a bit more gracefully than that.)

So, I sent them the map that Kelly had drawn.

And they were so impressed and amazed by Kelly’s map that they wrote back, asking if I thought Kelly might be interested in designing the official map for the book.

Anddd I basically told them that if it were possible to hire Kelly, then having a FictionPress fan design the map for THRONE OF GLASS would be the coolest thing EVER."

Dream Cast: Throne of Glass (The Big Three)

There are no confirmed announcements from Sarah J. Maas of movie rights being sold, but with the growing popularity and fan base of this fantastic series, it wouldn't be a big leap if it did get pegged for a movie sometime in the future.

In the meantime, let's get our sights set on some potential castings… We will, however, only be discussing Celaena, Chaol & Dorian (or the Big Three as I like to call them) in this post, the other minor characters will be posted next time (preferably after Heir of Fire is released).

DISCLAIMER: These castings are not official, I've gathered the cast from opinions of fans all over the internet (including my own) and will be credited accordingly.

DORIAN HAVILLIARD

Drew Roy

He definitely has the potential, unfortunately (in my opinion), he seems to be missing the Dorian's regal air, but, [taps chin] I guess he can act his way through that, he's got a promising acting career anyway.

Brenton Thwaites

How do I say this kindly… NO.

Once upon a time, I used to cast Brenton Thwaites for everything and then I watched his movies… [snap] just like that, off he goes, out of my casting lists.

Joshua Anthony Brand

DEAR LORD, here we go again.
This guy is in every casting list with a dark-haired male like;

  • Augustus Waters (The Fault in our Stars by John Green)
  • William Herondale (The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare)
  • Four (Divergent by Veronica Roth)
  • and many, many MANY MORE.

Joshua Anthony Brand legitimately looks like a prince and seems like a genuinely nice person but; He. Is. Not. An. Actor! (!!!!!!) He's a model, a model, which means, though yes he looks like the character, NO he cannot and will not be cast because his career lies in MODELLING not ACTING! (though I do admit, he looks delicious in that photo).

Besides, this is how he really looks like:

and this

CHAOL WESTFALL

Jeremy Irvine

Jeremy Irvine was introduced to me as a cast idea for Dorian Havilliard and well, frankly, I don't see it. Don't get me wrong, he's panty-dropping-sexy but you know who he resembles more? Chaol Westfall. He has a certain ruggedness that isn't present in Dorian but is definitely seen in Chaol.

Keegan Allen

Cast Idea: Mine / Picture Credit

It is awfully difficult thinking of a cast for Chaol because he's such a … out-of-the-box character! He's not your typical dark haired, gorgeous male with a killer bod, and I love that about him (even if it makes it impossible thinking of a cast).

Keegan Allen seems like a possible choice though I would't bet my money on it.

CELEANA SARDOTHIEN

Claire Holt

Claire's definitely got the tough-chick vibe, what with her vampire roles and bad-ass persona, I'd cast her as Celaena any day!

Amanda Seyfried

Now, I've got nothing against Amanda Seyfried, but I can't see her portraying the role. She's a little bit too popular, if you know what I mean. Amanda's basically iconic in the film industry, what with her role in Mean Girls, Dear John, Les Miserables, and much, much more. I'd like a fresh face (or as fresh as we can get) playing Celaena. (fingers crossed!)

I'd still be ecstatic to have Amanda in the cast, though!

Tabrett Bethell

Cast Idea: mine / Picture Credit

Now this girl, I'm rooting for! She's got Celaena written all over her and she's not too famous or under experienced to take on the role! Fresh face, accurate looks, awesome acting skills! Geez, what more can I ask for?

Here's a movie poster of Tabrett from Legend of the Seeker:

That concludes our dream cast for the big three!

Do you guys have any suggestions for castings? (ESPECIALLY FOR CHAOL!!) Leave your thoughts and cast ideas for not only the big three but other minor characters as well, because as I mentioned, we'll be posting a cast list for them pretty soon too!

Survival Guide to Assassin's Blade

I don't know about you but Assassin's Blade brought me to tears. Sure it was only five novellas, five novellas, but hell, that ending was NO EASY READ. So here's a survival guide to all of you who haven't read it yet. (by the way, you should read it, right away.)

Oh but before the Survival Guide.

You're probably wondering why you should read the Assassin's Blade if it's "just a bunch of novellas," well it's not, okay, it's not just a bunch of novellas, it's the bunch of novellas. If you think it doesn't do you any good when reading Throne of Glass, think again, it does you plenty good. It paints you a better picture of who Celaena was before spending time in Endovier, and better yet, it shows you who Sam sexy freakin ass Cortland is.

If you're worried about which to read first, Throne of Glass or Assassin's Blade, we wrote an article about the right way of reading them here.

Carrying on to the Survival Guide…

1. Towels: tissue doesn't cut it.

2. Let people know: before hand, you should inform your parents, family, boyfriends, friends etc. that you will be undergoing a traumatic event and that they shouldn't worry because it won't last longer than forever.

3. Water-proof mascara: to fight those unwanted mascara tear stains!

4. Comfort object: a pillow or stuffed toy (or person) you can hug during those "oh my god that didn't happen, no, no, no" times.

5. Water: gotta stay hydrated!

6. Charger: can't have that device dying on the good (or sad) parts!

7. Cheerful music: something's gotta cheer you up!

8. Don't read in public: for obvious reasons

9. Comfort food: LISTEN UP, I don't care if you're on a diet. Screw the diet! You'll need this, you will need it! Trust me, you'll finish that bag of chips and can of soda like your life depended on it.

10. Do you ever get over it? Not really, no.

[slowly wipes away tear] there you have it, I hope you have a much, much easier time reading The Assassin's Blade than I did.
